Beatrice Police have released additional information concerning the standoff involving Michael Haney Jr., 36. Haney was arrested at his home after his wife contacted 911 and reported her husband had been making threats to her while handling weapons and ammunition.
According to police Haney’s wife said he threatened to kill her and took a box of ammunition out of a closet. She left the home and drove to the police station. Police report Haney allegedly told his wife that said she was “lucky I don’t kill you or beat you up like your ex-husband did.”
Police said there was no evidence that Haney ever wielded a gun. Police did confiscate four rifles from the home.
Haney denied threatening his wife, but admitted to police he did have an argument with her. He told police he grabbed the box of bullets because he had money hidden in it.
Haney was arrested for a felony charge of terroristic threats and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault in the third degree. His bond hearing is scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m.
