Weight limits on some county roads have become a concern for the Gage County Board of Supervisors.
Supervisor Terry Jurgens, who serves as the county’s road and bridge committee chairman would like to discuss the limits over the next two weeks. Jurgens said restrictions were put in place to keep the roads in good condition. He said in some cases an empty semi would be overweight travelling the road putting making problems for farmers especially at harvest time. He said the policies worked well because it kept commercial traffic off the roads, but allowed locals to still use them.
Jurgens said the Department of Transportation has started enforcing these limits strictly following local complaints. Jurgens told he plans to check with County Attorney Roger Harris to see if pulling those restrictions is legal. The board will then discuss the matter in two weeks
