The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has started the process to close the Coon Creek Bridge on Highway 9 one mile west of Waterville. The closure will take place in 2014 and last approximately six months. The latest KDOT plans do not include a sho-fly and no detour has been designated. The sho-fly is an alternate road at the site allowing traffic to drive around the construction. Without the sho-fly people travelling on Highway 9 may need to travel an additional 50 miles or more to go between towns west of the construction and towns east of the construction.
John Brake of Blue Rapids is encouraging Marshall County residents to contact KDOT and their state representatives to ask that a sho-fly be added to the plans. Contact information is listed at KNDYradio.com and KNDY on Facebook.
