Washington County Commission Minutes, February 13, 2012

The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, February 13, 2012 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner; Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk.   

 

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

County offices will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2012 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

The next regular meeting is Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 8:30 A.M.

 

The commission examined and confirmed the annual report of Union Township.

 

Roger Otott moved and Gene Helms seconded to give $100.00 to the USD #108 After Prom Party.  Motion carried.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, was given permission to get pricing on a hydro-seeder to be used by his department and the public works department.  Free days at the transfer station will be all day April 26 and April 27 and a one-half day on Saturday, April 28.

 

Robin Slattery, River Valley Extension District #4, presented quarterly impact statement and spoke of the succession planning meeting that will be presented at Cloud County Community College.

 

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report and monthly budget report.  Bids for motor grader purchases in set for February 21.

 

The board recessed at noon for lunch and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.

 

Debbie Swoboda, Emergency Management Coordinator, presented LEPC minutes.  The board approved an 80/20 grant application for printing brochures for Preplanning for Awareness of Hazardous Materials.  The Weather Watchers meetings is set for March 19 at the EMS building in Washington.  Gene Helms moved that the county pay for meals and door prizes for the meeting.  Roger Otott seconded and motion carried.

 

Sheriff Bill Dickson reported that the jail is currently housing 17 Sedgwick County prisoners; 4 Washington County and 1 Marshall County prisoners.  At 2:15 P.M. Gene Helms moved to go into executive session with Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, and Sheriff Dickson for 15 minutes to discuss non elected personnel.  Roger Otott seconded and motion carried.  At 2:30 P.M. the board returned to regular session.  No action was taken.

 

The meeting adjourned at 2:35 P.M.
