Upcoming Cattle Disease Identification and Management Program

The River Valley District of K-State Research and Extension will be sponsoring a program on January 19th, 2012, focusing on cattle diseases.  This will be at the American Legion inLinn,KS with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. and the program beginning at 5:00 p.m.  A free dinner will be included sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health.

Cattle diseases cost the industry billions each year in death loss, decreased performance, and reproductive failure; not to mention the costs of medication and treatment.  The key to managing these diseases is to first understand what they are, what types of cattle are at risk, and what can be done to prevent or treat cattle when challenged by an illness.  Dr. Gregg Hanzlicek DVM, K-State’s Director of Production Animal Field Investigations, will be presenting topics on Trichomoniasis, Johne’s Disease, Anaplasmosis, Bovine Leukosis, and much more.  Proper vaccination and disease record keeping will also be discussed.

Please contact your local extension office to register by January 13th for this program.  For more information call Robin Slattery at 785-325-2121.  There is no cost to attend but a count is needed for the meal.
