The reported victim of a gang rape has been arrested for lying about the incident. 27-year-old Jennifer Valenta was arraigned Monday for charges of perjury, tampering with evidence, false reporting, prostitution and other charges.
In November of 2011, Valenta originally told authorities that Elliot Hawkins of Wymore offered to pay her $300 in exchange for sexual acts. According to Valenta’s story Hawkins took her to Big Indian Recreation Area in southern Gage County where Hawkins and three other males took turns raping her.
The investigation by the Gage County Sheriff found the evidence failed to meet the description of the crime. When Valenta was interviewed again she admitted she made up the story. She was arrested Friday afternoon. Bond was set at 25,000 dollars. Valenta is scheduled to make her next court appearance January 30th.
All charges against Hawkins were dropped.
