Cows Killed In Train Trailer Collision

Several cows were killed in a trailer were killed when the trailer was hit by a Union Pacific train.  The Nemaha County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Department says 75-year-old Edgar Bredemeier of Stella was driving a truck pulling a stock trailer on 721 Road, when a northbound Union Pacific locomotive struck the trailer Monday morning.

Ten cows in the trailer were either killed directly in the crash or were put down due to injuries.
Total damage to the truck, locomotive, and animals is estimated at over $117,000.  The crossing is marked with railroad crossing signs and yield signs. Bredemeier was not injured.
