The Kansas Humanities Council approved a grant in the amount of $1,410 to the Blue Rapids Museum to enable them to be a partner site for the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibition, The Way We Worked. The Humanities Council is proud that museums, historical societies, and public libraries will take the lead in continuing the critical conversation about work and working in Kansas with new exhibitions, oral history projects, public programs and special events.
Because the Blue Rapids Museum treasures the interior shots of historic businesses, it has been a dream to photograph all workers in the interior of all businesses in town in 2012. With the support of this grant, this project will proceed. Tom Parker will be the photographer and will be accompanied by a volunteer who will gather names, facts about the business and other interesting data to accompany the photos. Volunteers will be creating interview questions and answer forms, making appointments for the photo shoots and typing. Call if you would like to help with this project—Pat Osborne 785 363 7949.
The Museum Board plans to proceed with major roof repairs, wiring and wall finishing and have the new room ready to mount this special exhibit by the middle of 2013.
