Fatality Accident Reported in Gage County

Thursday at approximately 0800 hours the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Fire Marshalls’ Office were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on S. 134th Rd and near East Buckeye Road.

Upon arrival deputies observed a green 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, located in a bean field on the east side of the roadway. The driver, Matthew Bernhardt, 29 years old of Adams was ejected from the vehicle due to the vehicle rolling approximately 4-5 times, coming to rest approximately 70 ft from the roadway. The vehicle had caught fire during the accident. Bernhardt died as a result of injuries received in the crash. Seat belts were not in use and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor, pending test results
