Diller Odell School Evacuated Due to Threat

Diller-Odell High School was evacuated for two and a half hours on Monday morning after a note was discovered making an unspecified threat to the building. Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Nebraska State Patrol used dogs to search the building.

According to Superintendent Darrell Vitosh students were taken to the Odell Community Center.

The following statement was released by the school district: “Diller-Odell High School had a situation that required us to use the utmost precaution. We evacuated the high school for two and a half hours as law enforcement was called to conduct a search of our high school building. We are confident that the correct steps were taken to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We debriefed the students as they returned to the gym and at 1:30 p.m. school is resuming as normal.”

Parents were not immediately notified of the evacuation. Vitosh said students were debriefed on the situation and given a letter from the district to deliver to their parents.

According to a Gage County Sheriff’s Department report the investigation revealed that a juvenile was responsible for the note and criminal charges are pending.
