The Kansas Secretary of Social and Rehabilitation Services, Rob (said-leck-ee) Siedlecki, addressed reforms for rules for applicants and recipients of several state welfare programs. According to Siedlecki the changes affect Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Child Care Assistance
The changes will go into effect October 1st. and include:
• Persons must start searching for employment before getting their first government check.
• People who knowingly and deliberately commits fraud involving related programs will be permanently cut off
• Welfare recipients cannot using their vision card to purchase alcohol, tobacco or lottery tickets.
Another change will require the incomes of unmarried boyfriends or girlfriends to be included as part of a household‘s qualifications for assistance.
