September 19-23, 2011 is National Senior Corps Week. Senior Corps is made up of three unique volunteer programs that are funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Locally, these programs are the Foster Grandparent Program and the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program or RSVP.
RSVP of Northeast Kansas is a very strong non-profit program in Marshall and Washington Counties. RSVP has 286 active volunteers who have given 36,630 hours of their time in the last 18 months.
More than 103 RSVP volunteers visit the elderly and/or homebound in their homes and nursing homes; providing 3,802 hours of service to the community. Joni Spellmeier, Director of RSVP of Northeast Nebraska will by the guest on KNDY’s Public Affairs Program this weekend.
