Woman Injured When Explosive Overturns Boat

On Saturday at approximately 7 p.m. the Gage County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Beatrice Community Hospital in reference to injuries to a pregnant female caused by an explosive. Upon arrival at the emergency room, deputies made contact with a 26 year old Beatrice woman. She advised that she was traveling down the Big Blue River near Dewitt in a boat with a large group of people. She advised that while traveling down the river, 34 year old Grant Crannell of Beatrice began lighting large explosives and throwing them in the river. One of the explosives was tossed into the river and floated underneath the boat that the victim was in and ignited. The blast from the explosive caused the boat to overturn which threw her from the boat.

The victim sustained minor injuries from being thrown from the boat. She was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital where she was treated and released. The boat was seized as evidence and the case is currently being investigated by the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska Game and Parks, Nebraska State Patrol, and ATF.
