The 19-year-old Holton soldier Pfc. Cody G. Baker, who was killed last week while serving in the Army in Afghanistan, will be buried Saturday with full military honors in his hometown cemetery.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, Burial will follow in Holton Cemetery.
The Pentagon said Baker and Pfc. Gil I. Morales Del Valle, 21, of Jacksonville, Fla., were killed Aug. 3 when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device in the Wardak province of Afghanistan.
Baker, a 2010 graduate of Holton High School, was born in Topeka, the son of Gilbert O. and Candice L. Ferguson Baker Jr. He joined the Army in February 2010.
During his 1½ years of military service he received numerous awards and decorations including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the NATO Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
