Hanover Citizens’ Frustrated with Property Valuations

Approximately 75 Hanover citizens’ questioned Washington County Commissioner Allison Mueller, County Appraiser Francine Regan, and County Clerk Lou Kern during a special meeting at Kloppenberg Center.

Hanover citizens questioned the amount of county and other taxes being paid by Hanover citizens. County Appraiser Francine Regan explained that home values in Hanover were rising and with the rise in valuation came a rise in taxes. Citizens of Hanover questioned why the valuation of properties is not the same county wide. Regan explained that the valuations were based on home sales and according to Regan Hanover has the highest value homes in Washington County at this time.

After further discussion Commissioner Mueller agreed to bring in a representative from the State of Kansas Property Valuation Department to further discuss the valuation process with the citizens of Hanover. This next meeting will take place sometime in the next three months.
