Beginning August 15th the Beatrice Social Security Office will reduce its hours and be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Agency Employees will continue to work their regular schedule. The shorter time for the public to visit with an agency employee face-to-face will supposedly save on the cost of overtime. The Department of Social Security stated it believes the shorter hours will allow employees to complete sessions with clients without going into overtime.
According to the Department of Social Security their newest budget makes it impossible for the agency to provide the amount of service they have provided to the public in the past. Social Security is also reminding people that most of their services do not require a visit to an office. Anyone needing to apply for benefits, sign up for direct deposit, replace a Medicare card, obtain proof of income letter or inform them of a change of address or telephone number may do so at: socialsecurity.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213.
