Washington County Sheriff Reports 2 Structure Fires

On Monday August 15th the Washington Fire Department was dispatched to 1818 North D Street for a garage fire.  The garage belonged to Gary Owens.  Fire Chief Jerry Aldredge reports that the fire was most likely started by a lightning strike.  The garage and attached workshop were a total loss.

On Monday August 22nd the Greenleaf, Hanover & Washington Fire Departments were dispatched to 2313 18th Road for the report of a house fire.  The home belonged to Shirley Kern.  The fire started in the basement.  Damage to the home is considered minor.

Other Reported Incidents:

On 081511 on 7th Street just east of B Street in Washington Jenne Barley, Washington driving a 2003 Cadillac was driving out of parking lot when a 2004 Ford driven by Louis Carter, Morrowville struck Barley’s vehicle. Damage estimated at more than $1,000.00, no injuries were reported.

On 081611 an officer was dispatched to 500 West 2nd Street, Washington for the report of Harassment.

On 081711 an officer was dispatched to the Little Blue River bridge on US 36 for the report of Property Damage. Investigation is pending.

On 081711 on K 9 just west of Bismark Road, Mariah Kiefer, Clifton driving a 2004 Jeep struck deer. Damage estimated at more than $1,000.00, no injuries were reported.

On 082011 on Sunflower Road 1/2 mile south of 20th Road Joel Force Manhattan driving a 2008 Dodge when he struck mud in roadway due to rain and rolled vehicle. Damage estimated at more than $1,000.00, no injuries were reported.

On 082211 KDOT reported that the “Welcome to Kansas” sign was taken from the Kansas Nebraska line on K 148. Investigation is pending.
