Pursuit Begins in Beatrice – Ends in Gage County

At approximately 3 am on Saturday the Beatrice Police Department attempted to stop on a vehicle within the Beatrice city limits. A pursuit ensued, exited the city limits, and entered the county. The pursuit ended when the vehicle was crashed north of Belvedere on Southwest 32nd Road.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and began working the accident investigation. It was determined that the car was driven by 25 year old Joshua Lerma, was traveling northbound on Southwest 32nd Road. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control near the intersection of Belvedere and Southwest 32nd Road. The vehicle entered the west ditch, hit a culvert, went airborne, and came to rest in the west ditch approximately 630 feet north of the intersection.

The vehicle had four passengers in it. Three were using seatbelts. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy in the vehicle. The driver was arrested by the Beatrice Police Department for Felony Flight to Avoid Arrest, Suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Willful Reckless Driving.
