Fisherman Lands Pickup

Gage County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a pond near South 80th Road and East Lilac Road Sunday evening after receiving a report of a vehicle in a pond. Beatrice Communications had received a call from some young men who had been fishing at the pond. One of their fishing lines became snagged and in an attempt to retrieve the line, they entered the water and discovered they were snagged on a submerged vehicle. Chief Deputy Klaus arranged for the area to be secured throughout the night for further investigation.

On Monday morning, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, the four fisherman, Gage County Emergency Management, the 3 and 33 Mutual Aid Association Dive Team, Wymore Fire Department, and Northeast Auto Towing responded to the pond. Divers located the Mazda pickup truck upside down in the pond. Once the divers were satisfied no bodies were in the vehicle, Northeast Auto Towing pulled the pickup from the pond. Another sweep of the pond’s floor was done by divers to assure they hadn’t missed anything. Gage County Investigators with the assistance of Gage County Communications found that the pickup has not been reported stolen. Investigators will be following up with further investigation.
