Former Marshall County Attorney Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Theft Charge

Former Marshall County Attorney Brian Carroll, appeared in Marshall County District Court on Tuesday where he plead not guilty to a felony theft charge.

Kansas State Attorney General filed the charge Carroll in Marshall County District Court. According to court documents the state alleges Carroll misappropriated more than $70,000 of Marysville Berean Church funds between Aug. 4, 2006, and Nov. 22, 2010.

Due to Carroll’s former position as Marshall county prosecutor Judge Murphy, of Lawrence, is presiding over the case.

Carroll is representing himself in the case.

Judge Murphy set a $10,000 oral recognizance bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 16. Carroll was not booked into jail and is expected to be processed the day of the next hearing.
