K-178 Bridge Repair Project Set to Begin in Nemaha County

Weather permitting, on Monday, April 18, a repair project will begin on the bridge spanning Wildcat Creek in Nemaha County. The bridge is located just east of the city of St. Benedict on K-178, just north of the US-36/K-178 junction. Work will take place daily during daylight hours throughout the project duration.

Traffic over the bridge will be reduced to one lane beginning on Tuesday, April 19. Traffic signals will be installed on Monday, April 18. The signals will direct traffic across the bridge round the clock (24/7) during the duration of the project. Traffic will be restricted to one 12-foot wide lane across the bridge. Drivers should expect minor delays and are advised to use alternate routes, if possible.

Crews will repair bridge rails and some work underneath the bridge followed by a polymer overlay applied to the entire bridge deck. The polymer overlay will be applied one half at a time with traffic placed on the opposite side. New pavement markings will be applied to the resurfaced bridge deck.

PCI Road, LLC is the primary contractor on this bridge repair project with a total contract cost of $120,562. Project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-June 2011.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
