Marshall County Election Results

Marysville voters elected a new mayor, and for a second time turned down a one percent city sales tax that would have funded a new swimming pool, tennis court improvements, and a new fire station.

Bill Phillippi unseated incumbent mayor Bernie Krug.  Phillippi received 58% of the vote, Krug 28%, and tim Jones 12%. The sales tax was defeated by a 59% margin, with 620 voting no, and 415 yes.

Longtime Marysville City Treasurer Lynn Mayer was defeated by challenger Kenny Kickhafer with 53% of votes.

For Marysville City Council, ward one, incumbent Wayne Price holds off challenger Rich Rockwell by a 52% margin.  In ward two Sean Cohorst wins over Sam Musil by 69%.  Ward three incumbent Kevin Throm was defeated by Tim Ackerman with 61% of ballots.  Finally in ward four, Todd Frye received 68% of votes versus Vernita Peeks.

For Marysville USD 364 School Board, in contested races, Todd Milner defeats Joylynn Roberts with 70% of the count, and Kevin Samuelson holds off challenger Chris Denner with 53%.

A dead heat for USD 498 Valley Heights, position two with McNary and Vermetten tied 153 each.  For position three, Walsh defeats Woodyard with 54% of votes.

Jerry Bainum leads Lynda Cross 72-70 in Marshall County ballots for USD 380 School Board. That district, as well as recently consolidated districts 113, and 115 have a number of votes to be determined from Nemaha County.

Blue Rapids Mayor John Nowak was reelected, with 52% of the vote over Fred Hyde.  Michael Minihan with 108, and Amy Bishop 68 votes lead a five candidate field for two blue rapids city council positions.  Joe O’Toole 65, Ned Lineweber 42, and Ginny Bates 40 votes.

Top two in a three way race for Vermillion City Council were Darrin Vandorn 46, and James Woolsencroft 33, with Nancy Meritt trailing with 17.

Only 28% of registered Marshall County voters turned out Tuesday.
