Vehicle Pursuit Report – Gage County

LOCATION: S. 120th & Elm Road

TIME: 1645 Hours

OFFENSE: Vehicle pursuit

CASE: 2011-1553

At approximately 1645 hours, Gage County Communications advised of a disturbance located at 12961 E. Elm Road. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Andrew Bender had left the residence with a weapon and there were concerns for his safety.

Two Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies and a Nebraska State Trooper began looking for Mr. Bender who was reported driving a maroon Chevy Blazer. At approximately 1740 hours, the vehicle was located eastbound on Elm Road approaching South 80th Road. Deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle while it was eastbound on Elm Road. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. Contact was made with the vehicle at which time the pursuit ended.

The vehicle rolled ¾ of a turn coming to rest in the north ditch approximately ½ mile east of S.120th Road on Elm Road. Mr. Bender was taken into custody without further incident. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle.

Mr. Bender was arrested for obstructing a Police Officer and Flight to Avoid Arrest. Mr. Bender was taken to the Beatrice Community Hospital to be checked for any injuries that he might have sustained when the vehicle over turned. Mr. Bender received minor cuts and bruises from the rollover. Mr. Bender was then taken to the Gage County Detention Center where he was lodged.
