During Red Cross Month in March, the Red Cross is promoting an event in the American Red Cross-Kansas Capital Area Chapter region. With a gift from the Wal-Mart Foundation, the Red Cross purchased two new disaster relief trailers that will store essential supplies for disaster victims who will be sheltered.
Wal-Mart provided the American Red Cross with a $25,500 State Giving Grant. The Kansas Capital Area Chapter will stage the two trailers which contain cots, special need cots, and other supplies to be used in helping disaster individuals during disaster. One trailer has already been stationed in Emporia and the other will be showcased in Marysville. With two new trailers, the American Red Cross is better equipped to respond to disasters by providing quicker relief. Northeast Kansas will have a total of four trailers which will be located in the following cities: Topeka, Marysville, Emporia, and Manhattan.
On March 26, the Red Cross will be displaying the trailer and providing demonstrations at the Wal-Mart in Marysville from 10am-3pm. At this time, the trailer will be on display along with a table display demonstrating how to put together a preparedness kit for home. Wal-Mart will have all the items for the preparedness kit which one can purchase. With disaster preparedness purchase, the Red Cross will donate a crate for your disaster supplies. Red Cross staff and volunteers will be on site to answer questions.
