Marshall County has the highest unemployment rate in the KNDY listening area with 5.5 percent according to the Kansas Department of Labor’s Report on January Unemployment. Washington County reported 5.0 percent unemployment and Nemaha County reported an area low of 4.1 percent unemployment. The State of Kansas January 2011 unemployment rate in Kansas was 7.4 percent, up from 6.4 in December 2010 but down from 7.9 percent in January 2010.
Gage County Nebraska reported 5.3 percent unemployment for January 2011 which is up from 4.7 percent in December but down from January 2010’s 6.9 percent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped from 9 percent to 8.9 percent in February.
