BSDC to Begin Second Round of Layoffs

The Beatrice State Developemental Center in Beatrice announced it will begin layoffs this spring. Jodi Fenner, director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, said layoff plans had been forwarded to administrators at the center, but no layoff notices have been handed out.

According to Fenner the number of individuals served by BSDC has fallen over the past year and that has caused the need for the layoffs. Currently, 157 individuals live on the campus. In 2010, BSDC cut 50 positions on campus. Twenty of those employees were able to find work in other areas on BSDC. Many of the employees affected by the new round of layoffs have already begun applying for different positions on campus.
