Accused Murderer Makes First Court Appearance

A Fairbury woman accused of murder made her first court appearance Wednesday after being arrested on Saturday for the murder of her husband. Susan Dejong is accused in the beating death of Thomas Dejong. The court will hold Susan Dejong without bond until her second court date, March 23 at 9 a.m.

According to the probable cause affidavit released Tuesday, Jefferson County dispatch received a call on Friday at about 4:02 p.m. from Susan at 55930 Highway 136, about nine miles west of Fairbury. Rescue units transported Thomas to the hospital in Fairbury. He was then transferred to Lincoln. Lincoln Police Department officers were summoned by doctors to the hospital. They described Thomas’ facial area and skull as somewhat misshapen from bruising and severely discolored.

Detectives interviewed Susan Dejong at the LPD office. She was then arrested and transported back to Fairbury where she was lodged at the Jefferson County Jail for the alleged murder of her husband.
