STANDOFF ENDS AFTER SUSPECT SHOT
The eight hour standoff in the 800 block of Division Street in Downs ended at
7:40 p.m. Monday, after authorities from the Osborne County Sheriffs Office and
the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Special Response Team entered the house in an
attempt to get the suspect to surrender.
Earlier in the day at the suspect, who was upset at a court hearing in Jewell
County, stole a vehicle and fled Mankato. Authorities say shots were fired at
police vehicles, but nobody was injured.
Mitchell County authorities spotted the stolen vehicle on westbound U.S.
Highway 24, and gave chase until the suspect reached the residence in Downs.
KSN News reports the suspect is in critical condition after an ambulance left
the home.
