Warehouse Fire Destroys Historic Building in Beatrice

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Friday morning the old Husqvarna also known as the former Keeys building located at the intersection of Seventh and Carlyle streets was reported to be on fire.

According to the Beatrice Daily Sun Website, Scanner reports later noted that there had been an explosion and the building was engulfed in flames. As of 6:15 a.m., large flames continued to be seen coming from the building. All shifts of the Beatrice Fire and Rescue were been called in to help battle the fire inside the former manufacturing facility. As of about 6:30 a.m., Beatrice Fire Chief Brian Daake said firefighters confined the fire to one area. As of 7 a.m., only a few smaller flames could be seen coming from the west side of the building amidst a cloud of smoke. Firefighters ceased spraying water over the building at 9:30 a.m.

Daake said the cause of the fire is unknown and said the department will request an investigation from the State Fire Marshall. The building was most recently being used as warehouse.
