Severe Weather Awareness Week

The week of March 6 is the official Severe Weather Awareness Week. The Annual Statewide Severe Weather Tornado Drill will take place Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Kansas recorded 88 tornadoes in 2010.The record number of tornadoes in Kansas remains at 187 documented in 2008. The average number of tornadoes that occur across Kansas during the past 20 years is around 96. Tornadoes can occur at any time of the year but they are most likely during the spring months of April, May and June with a peak during the last half of May and the first half of June across Northeast Kansas.

Join us on Saturday Morning in the 7:00 A.M. and again in the noon hour the Public Affairs program with Bill Schwinndamann, Marshall County Emergency Management Coordinator. Bill will talk about some on the things you can do to prepare for severe weather and the IRIS program.
