Beatrice City Administrator, Neal Niedfelt said work will start on a ten mile trail segment of the Homestead Trail which will eventually reach from Lincoln, Nebraska to Marysville, KS.
In 2008 Beatrice received a grant for 493,000 dollars from the federal Transportation Enhancement Program. Beatrice will pay twenty percent of the cost through in-kind services. The trail section runs from Cortland to Pickrell, Nebraska. Once complete, bicyclists and others will be able to travel by trails from Lincoln to Beatrice.
Two of the twelve miles of trail in Kansas have been completed by a local non-profit named the Marshall County Connection.
