Possible Date Change For Class 1A-Division II State Basketball Tournament

As we prepare for the Class 1A-Division II State Basketball Tournament at Hays, KSHSAA member schools have been advised there is the possibility the tournament dates may be changed.  The Fort Hays State University men’s basketball team is having an outstanding basketball season and may have the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional basketball tournament.  The first date of the NCAA tournament is Saturday, March 12.  In order to work cooperatively with Fort Hays State University and allow them to host the NCAA regional tournament, the KSHSAA has developed an alternate schedule for the Class 1A-Division II state tournament. The purpose of this release is to give you preliminary information concerning the possible change.

The final decision on whether to adjust the schedule will be made on February 28, 2011.

If implemented, the alternative schedule will move the entire state tournament forward one day.

The alternative schedule would be as follows:

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 – Girls Quarterfinal games at 3:00 pm, 4:45 pm, 6:30 pm, & 8:15 pm

Wednesday, March 9, 2011 – Boys Quarterfinal games @ 3:00 pm, 4:45 pm, 6:30 pm, 8:15 pm

Thursday, March 10, 2011 – Semifinal games – Girls at 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Boys at 4:45 pm and 8:15 pm.

Friday, March 11, 2011 – Consolation and State Championship games

2:00 p.m. – 3rd Place Girls Game

3:45 p.m. – 3rd Place Boys Game

5:30 p.m. – Introduction of Past Girls Championship Teams

5:45 p.m. – Girls Championship Game

7:40 p.m. – Introduction of Past Boys Championship Teams

8:00 p.m. – Boys Championship Game

The final decision on whether to implement the alternative schedule will be made on February 28.  We will post this information on the KSHSAA website by 2:00 p.m.  If the decision to use the alternative schedule is made, it will not be rescinded should FHSU not be given a regional bid on Sunday, March 6th.

He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communication.
