The regular meeting of the U.S.D. #451 Board of Education was called to order Wednesday, January 12, 2011 by President Dale Sudbeck at 7:30 p.m. Alan Schmitz, Steve Sudbeck, Nick Holthaus, Jim Dalinghaus, and Martin Haug answered roll call. John Haug was absent. Also attending were Jerry Turner, Laurie Niehues, and Carol Hunninghake.
Nick Holthaus made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 13, 2010 regular meeting as presented. Steve Sudbeck seconded the motion; motion carried. 6-0
Martin Haug made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Jim Dalinghaus seconded the motion; motion carried. 6-0
Jerry Turner’s superintendent report included: a report on the legislative luncheon, held in Seneca, January 5, 2011, and an update on deficit that the State General Fund is facing for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Mr. Turner also updated the board on the insurance coverage for 15 passenger vans for the senior trip, and school cancellations and activities that have been rescheduled.
Board members heard an update on the December 20, 2010 interim board meeting.
Alan Schmitz made a motion to accept the general fund, activity fund financial reports, treasurer’s report, claims and payroll for the month of January. Dale Sudbeck seconded the motion; motion carried. 6-0
Jerry Turner gave the board an update on the itinerary for the senior class trip.
Board members discussed the name for the new district. The board members agreed to present Nemaha Central as their suggested name for the new district with the colors of Purple and Navy.
Martin Haug made a motion to go into executive session for the superintendent’s evaluation at 8:10 p.m. for 30 minutes and return to open session at 8:40 p.m. Jim Dalinghaus seconded the motion; Motion carried. 6-0
Alan Schmitz made a motion to come out of executive session at 8:30 p.m. Dale Sudbeck seconded the motion; motion carried. 6-0
The board commended the elementary students, faculty and staff on the Elementary Christmas Program, and the jr. high students, faculty, and staff for their hard work and performance of the plays. The board thanked Janet, Brent, Nick, and Kari Heideman, Corey and Shayla Heiman, Ves and Charlie Koch, Dan Heiman and Nathan Waller for helping with snow removal after the snow storm.
Board members noted that the deadline to file for a position on the USD 115 School Board is noon, January 25, 2011.
Nick Holthaus made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:34 p.m. with the next regular meeting scheduled February 14, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Steve Sudbeck seconded the motion; motion carried. 6-0
