Recall of Wymore City Council Member Moves Forward

Efforts to recall Wymore City Council member Dan Hawkins continue to move forward.

Hawkins has presented a written response that will be attached to the recall petition being circulated. In Hawkins’ response, he says, “I’ve left meetings to protest the Mayor’s refusal to acknowledge and present other experienced candidates that have applied for the vacancy. I’m against the Mayor’s bias to appoint an individual he thinks is the only one with the city’s best interest in mind. I question the Mayor’s motive in considering one individual and ignoring other possible candidates.”

Lee Carr, Wymore resident said Tuesday that he plans to continue with the recall process. He has 30 days to collect 52 signatures from Hawkins’ district. If Carr succeeds and the signatures are approved by the Gage County Clerk’s Office, a recall election date can be set.

Wymore Mayor Guenther says all he wants is an up or down vote on Beth Cordry-Hookstra, the person he chose to fill the council seat he vacated when he was elected mayor. Guenther said he will continue to present her for a vote at meetings until a vote is taken.

Hawkins has walked out of five consecutive city council meetings.
