Washington City Council Terminates City Administrator Kurt Hassler

Washington City Administrator Kurt Hassler was terminated by the Washington City Council during a special meeting on Thursday.

According to the meeting minutes the council returned to open session after two executive sessions lasting approximately 35 minutes. Justin Cordry immediately made a motion to terminate of employment of Kurt Hassler as city administrator effective immediately. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gene Martin. The motion was passed, with Justin Cordry, Ryan Kern, Jean Martin, and Mike Uhlrich voting for and Meyler Gibbs voted against.

City Clerk Denise Powell, has been charged with organizing business related to the city administrator position and the communication of that business to Mayor Harold Jones, Jr. and the council for action as necessary.

Kurt Hassler was hired by the city of Washington in June of 2008. He is a 1995 graduate of Kansas State University and a 1990 graduate of Washington High School.

KNDY requested a comment from Hassler but has not received any response as of this time.
