Scammers are once again trying to use a fake lottery to gather financial information from residents under the guise of winning a sweepstakes. Letters have been mailed informing residents that they have won a MEGA-LOTTERY and all that is needed is personal information so a check can be deposited in their accounts.
Another scam is a realistic looking check mailed out that requires the resident to telephone a number for verification. Once the number is dialed, excessive phone charges could be billed to the caller.
Local law enforcement would like to remind citizens to remember that if it appears to be too good to be true it probably is. Contact your local law enforcement if you feel you are the victim of these or any other scam.
