Washington County Commissioners’ Minutes

COMMISSION MINUTES, JANUARY 3, 2011         

The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, January 3, 3011 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present: Alison Mueller, 1st  District Commissioner;  Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk. 

Chairman Helms called the meeting to order with prayer.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, January 10, 2011 at 8:30 A.M.

County offices will be closed on Monday, January 17, 2011 in observance of Martin Luther King  Jr. Birthday.    The commission will meet on January 18, 2011 in the morning only so that they may attend KAC County Government Day in Topeka.

The board approved and signed change order nos. 2010-36.

Lou Kern, County Clerk, submitted payroll change notice for Myrna Skrabal due to retirement effective January 5, 2011 that was signed by Chairman Helms.

Christy L’Ecuyer, Business Coordinator, updated the board on the USDA application for the hospital project.

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, reported on complaints that he has received regarding the Saturday morning closing at the transfer station.  Roger Otott reported that he has also received complaints.  The decision will be reviewed on April 1.  Alison Mueller moved and Roger Otott seconded to sign a contract with Salina Scales for 2011.  Motion carried.  Duane presented a list of things his department would like to accomplish.

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, updated the board on December activities and upcoming events.

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report.  He is currently advertising for help in his department.  David will begin annual sign and reflectivity checks and reported on equipment issues and bridge updates.

The board adjourned at noon for lunch and reconvened at 1:00 P.M.

Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, reported that the deed from Jim and Gaylynn Jones has been filed for record and that the draft Interlocal Agreement with Kimeo Township is done. 

The meeting adjourned at 1:30 P.M.
