One Killed, Two Injured in Blue Springs Fire

One person was killed and two injured by a fire in Blue Springs on Monday.  At approximately 8:30 A.M. Gage County Communications dispatched Blue Springs Fire Department to a house fire at 102 West 3rd in Blue Springs.

Upon arrival firefighters found Wes O’Keefe, age 47 of 102 West 3rd, Blue Springs, outside the structure suffering from burns.  O’Keefe told firefighters that he and another person, Tony Jones 53, also a resident, saw smoke coming from a garage that had been converted into a residence.  O’Keefe went to the structure, opened a door and located Charlotte Taylor, 66, also a resident, lying on the floor with the entire residence consumed in smoke.  O’Keefe had dragged Taylor from the residence and contacted Communications.

Taylor was declared deceased at the scene.  O’Keefe was taken via aircraft to BryanLGH for his injuries.  Jones was taken to BCH where he was also treated for injuries.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature but the Nebraska State Fire Marshalls’ investigation is still ongoing.
