Fire Damages Odell Home

A house fire in Odell caused extensive damage to a home on Thursday evening.  Odell, Diller and Beatrice Firefighters responded to a blaze at a house owned by Jake Rutti just after 5 p.m.  The home is located on Highway 8 and Highway 112 west of Odell.

Rutti reported that he was sealing cracks with foam when the foam caught fire near the hot water heater.  Both firefighters and Rutti said the fire moved vertically through the home quickly reaching the attic. According to firefighters the fire was put out by 6 p.m., they did remain for some time to watch for hot spots.  Firefighters also said the tin roof, ice and snow made this fire particularly hard to extinguish.  Authorities from the state fire marshal’s office were investigating the fire.
