Arts Cooperative Benefit Set for January 29

Members of the Marshall County Arts Cooperative are getting ready for their annual fund raiser.  The event, which has become the signature fund raiser for the cooperative, will showcase local talent as well as feature the popular all-male acappella group, m-pact.  All will come together for “An Evening Among the Stars” on Saturday, January 29, at the Marysville Moose Lodge.  Performance times are 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

“This event has become our hallmark event,” said Wayne Kruse, the arts cooperative’s executive director.  “This is the fourth year that we’re hosting this type of a fund raiser; each year the event has grown – so much, in fact, that we keep adding performances to accommodate patrons.”

“An Evening Among the Stars” is a two act musical revue featuring six local residents singing a selection of tunes.  Pat Breeding, Brian Cook, Mandy Cook, Kruse, Travis Panning, and Julie Popejoy will serve as the musical ensemble.  They will be introduced by Victor Blecharczyk and Carla Wolfe; Tam Gordon is the musical director.  Molly Cashier and Wolfe will be featured singers as well.

Approximately fifteen songs will be sung by the ensemble.  “We’re having a fun time rehearsing,” said Mandy Cook, performer.  “We’re singing a wide variety of songs – everything from Broadway to disco.  Plus, we’re keeping things fresh by singing solos, duets, as well as some small group numbers.  I think the audience will enjoy the variety.”

The performance includes renditions of “Dance to the Music,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “Somewhere.”

The six-member singing ensemble will be joined by m-pact.  Last year, m-pact made their debut appearance in this area and received rave reviews.  “By far, they are the most popular group that we’ve brought to this area,” said Kruse.

m-pact is hailed as “one of the best pop-jazz vocal groups in the world” by the San Francisco Chronicle.  The group has become a cutting edge trailblazer in the realm of vocal music because they feature nature’s “first instrument” – the human voice.

From the beginning, the “pact” of these well-studied masters has been to stay true to music, regardless of style or genre. Their sophisticated sound and accessible appeal have garnered vast accolades, including Vocal Group of the Year from the LA Music Awards, Artist of the Year from the Seattle Music Awards, and Grand National Champs of the Harmony Sweepstakes competition.

Touring renowned fine arts halls and jazz festivals across four continents, m-pact has performed with pop superstars Sheryl Crow, Boyz II Men, Liza Minnelli, Rick Springfield and Jackson Browne to name a few, as well as with jazz legends from Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, Take 6, and the New York Voices to the Woody Herman Orchestra and the Maynard Ferguson Big Band. Over the last dozen years, their signature sound has been used in both TV themes and animated Disney feature films, and is enjoyed on syndicated radio worldwide.

In addition to the songs performed by the local musical ensemble, guests will enjoy approximately ten songs sung by m-pact.

“There’s something for everyone,” said Kruse.  “Importantly, this is a chance for our community to come together to enjoy an evening of quality entertainment.  So often, people tell us how much they appreciate the fact that they can participate in programs such as this one right here in Marshall County.  We’re glad that we’re able to present such outstanding arts events.”

The benefit is a fundraiser for the arts cooperative.
