TIME: Approximately 1600 hours

OFFENSE: Car, child injury accident

CASE: 2010-5338

On November 6, 2010, Beatrice Communications received a report of a 4 year old child having been run over by a vehicle at his residence.  Kade Stevens, 4 yrs old, had been playing outside his father’s residence.  Jason Pella, 34 of Sterling had stopped at the residence to speak with Stevens’ father.  As Pella was leaving the residence, he placed the vehicle in reverse and ran over Stevens who had been hiding under the vehicle.

Stevens was taken by private vehicle to S 66th and Hwy 136, where they were met by Beatrice Fire and Rescue.  Highway 136 between S 66th and S 80th Roads was briefly closed for StarCare air ambulance to land and transfer Stevens to a Lincoln hospital.  Alcohol was not a factor and the investigation continues.

Follow-up on Kade’s condition revealed that he was transferred from Lincoln to Omaha and is in critical condition.
