The newly formed USD 115 interim board has selected Darrel Kohlman as acting superintendent for the new consolidated school district on Monday evening. Kohlman, is currently superintendent of the Nemaha Valley School District. Kohlman was selected on a split vote along current district lines. The four interim board members from the Nemaha Valley School district voted for Kohlman. The three interim board members from the B&B school district voted against the appointment. Current B & B School District Superintendent Jerry Turner was also considered for the position.
Interim board members unanimously selected Gary Niehues as board president and John Haug as vice-president. The president and vice-president will serve until June 30th of next year.
Current board clerks Collette Hermesch and Carol Huninghake were selected as co-clerks for the interim board.
The consolidation of Nemaha Valley and B&B will become effective July 1st of next year.
An election will be held to select board members for USD 115. Interested persons must file as a candidate before noon on Tuesday, January 25th at the Nemaha County Clerk’s office.
Elected Board members will serve staggered terms. Odd numbered positions will serve four-year terms and even numbered positions will serve two-year terms.
