On October 27th, 2010, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible neglect stemming from the personal sale of a canine to a citizen. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that there were approximately in excess of one hundred dogs at the residence in various states of health. While conducting the investigation, it was determined by the deputies on scene that the living conditions for the animals were unacceptable due to the overall condition of the residence. The dogs were seized from the property and placed into canine care facilities.
A citation was issued for animal neglect to Mary L. Stickney 49, of rural Cortland conducting business as Stickney’s Toy Breed Rescue and Retirement Sanctuary.
Agencies responding with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office were the Beatrice Humane Society, Beatrice Animal Control Authority, Nebraska Adult Protective Services Agency, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Public Health Solutions, Nebraska Humane Society, and Capitol Humane Society.
