SCC Enrollment Increases Nearly 3 Percent for Fall Quarter

Enrollment for the Fall Quarter at Southeast Community College increased nearly 3 percent from the same time a year ago, according to a recent report.

Information released by the Administrative Services Office indicates that full-time equivalency increased 2.89 percent for the Fall Quarter, which began Oct. 4. An FTE student is equivalent to 45 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours of classroom, laboratory, clinical, practicum, independent study course work or cooperative work experience applicable to a degree, diploma, or certificate in a program of study for which credit hours are offered, or 900 contact hours of classroom laboratory course work for which credit hours are not offered or awarded.

Enrollment is up 2.39 percent when data from the first two quarters of the academic year, Summer and Fall, is combined.

Dr. Jack Huck, SCC president, said the report is another positive outcome for the College.

“The numbers indicate that students continue to have positive experiences with us,” Huck said. “We take pride in the quality of our programs, the variety of areas of study, and our 92-percent placement rate.”

Huck said other services SCC provides contribute to a student’s success.

“The array of support services, the availability of financial aid, activities, and the relationships we build with students are all part of student success,” Huck said. “There also was a time when student success was only measured by graduation rates. But we realize that a degree isn’t the only measure of student success.”

Huck said students come to SCC with a variety of goals, and it’s up to the College to help students accomplish them.

“If a student wants to take a few general education classes with the goal of transferring those credits back to a four-year school, and we help them accomplish that, then that’s a successful outcome,” Huck said.
