Unemployment rates in September were down in most area northeast Kansas counties compared to August.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the latest jobless rates Friday
Nemaha, 3.7 percent; Washington, 4.3 percent and Marshall, 4.7 percent. Beatrice reported an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent
Leavenworth and Jefferson counties were the only two area counties to see an increase in their unemployment rates in September. Leavenworth County’s jobless rate was 7.9 percent and Jefferson, 7.4 percent.
According to the Department of Labor says the state gained 11-hundred non-farm jobs over the year, a one-tenth of a percent increase. It was the third consecutive month of over-the-year gains for non-farm employment.
Statewide, the jobless rate in September was 6.6 percent, up from 6.5 percent in August and down from 7 percent in September 2009. Nebraska unemployment rate stayed steady at 4.6 percent in September. Nationally the unemployment rate is 9.6 percent
