Two Fairbury men were arrested Monday after attempting to sell stolen equipment. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received information related to a possible burglary at the salvage yard at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers were given information about a person trying to sell two trucks and two John Deere tractors to the Dorchester salvage yard. The items were an exact match to items that were stolen from the Thompson salvage yard.
Based on the evidence officers interviewed two suspects: Daylon T. Vernon, 19 and Michael W. Leonard, 20, both of rural Fairbury. Both admitted to taking the two trucks, two tractors and other items from the salvage yard. Vernon and Leonard were arrested for burglary and trespassing and are being held in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting bond setting.
