SCC Golf Team Captures 13-Team Doane Invitational

When your No. 4 and No. 5 golfers tie for first in a tournament, the coach usually smiles.

That’s exactly what Southeast Community College head golf coach Bill Campbell did after his No. 4 and 5 players tied for individual honors at the Doane Invitational held Sept. 27-28 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln.

Trevor Romjue, a freshman from Lincoln, and Caleb Harms, a freshman from Beatrice, SCC’s No. 4 and 5 players, respectively, tied for first with identical 75-76-151 scores, leading the Storm to a first-place team finish.

“We played pretty well the second day,” Campbell said of his team’s 304 on Tuesday. “I guess if you’re going to pick a day to be hot, make it the last day.”

Asa Phillips, a freshman from Oxfordshire, England, was right behind with a two-day total 152 (78-74). Phillips finished fourth overall. Freshman Alex Overfelt of Papillion shot 86-78-164, while John Johnson, a sophomore from Seward, shot 86-85-171.

Jordan Janz of Dordt College in Iowa made it a three-way tie for first, shooting 76-75-151.

SCC will next compete in its own Fall Classic Oct. 4 at Beatrice Country Club. The tournament will consist of 18 holes in the morning and 18 in the afternoon.
