A grandmother in Summerfield received a call from her grandson. The only problem is that she didn’t have a grandson. The caller claimed to be a grandchild desperately in need of cash. This is another scam that has come to our listening area. With the current economy criminals appear to be working the phone lines and emails harder than ever. Phone calls and emails asking for any type of personal information or money should be ignored. The most convincing calls and emails may contain some of your personal information which is available on the web. If you do not recognize the person contacting you do not respond to them. In addition, many emails congratulating you on winning or awarding you a prize are loaded with viruses that can literally take over your computer. When in doubt delete the email without opening it or hang up the phone. For more information contact your local law enforcement.
