Southern Teacher awarded P.E. Teacher of the Year

Southern Elementary physical education teacher Beth Willet was recently awarded the Elementary P.E. Teacher of the Year in the state of Nebraska.  Willet, in her 31st year of teaching at Southern Elementary thanked students, teachers and administration for their support during a rally in her honor on Wednesday.  Willet was named the Elementary P.E. Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She will be honored at its annual awards banquet on Nov. 14. Willet, also assistant coaches junior high volleyball and is the head coach of the golf team.  Southern Elementary has joined the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and Willet hopes to increase participation across the school.  Principal Jerry Rempe said the school is proud of Willet’s achievement.  Rempe said Willet has continually pushed students to work hard and reach lofty goals as well as advocating for the need for physical education at Southern.
