Southeast Community College is implementing an emergency messaging system to broadcast alerts to students, staff and faculty.
Effective Oct. 4, the first day of the Fall Quarter, SCC will provide emergency messaging through a partnership with Regroup, which provides an integrated communications platform for organizations, including next-generation e-mail groups, SMS notifications and emergency messaging.
Lyle Neal, vice president for technology/Milford Campus director, said the College carefully investigated emergency messaging tools before signing with Regroup.
“We believe this system has a lot of advantages that will benefit our students, faculty and staff,” Neal said. “Communication during certain situations is critical, primarily for the safety of all involved.”
Emergency messaging may include situations threatening the safety and security of SCC locations; campus closings due to emergency situations threatening the safety and security of SCC locations, including inclement weather; and class cancellations due to inclement weather. The system will allow SCC to effectively reach students on their preferred platforms and provide important announcements in several different ways with the click of a mouse.
The system is available to users who have been assigned an e-mail address from SCC. On the Regroup site, users can add cell phone numbers to receive emergency-related text messages. Additional e-mail addresses also can be added.
Students, faculty and staff can manage their own contact information and choose the contact methods that they prefer.
